Travel Info
Regional Airport and Ground Transfer
The most frequently used airport is in Cancun. From Cancun, Punta Allen Fishing Club is about four hours away by car. There is now a newer airport south of Tulum, and this can help lower the travel time to the lodge. We can arrange your transport from the airport of your choosing.
All of our transfers are in private vehicles with air conditioning and operated by a professional travel transfer company. For groups up to 8 people, a van or minibus is normally used. For groups larger than 8, we will use two vans. Our drivers are professional, trustworthy and have taken great care of our clients for many years.
For Boat Transfer from Tulum
We are now offering roundtrip transfer via boat to and from Tulum for our guests that would like to avoid the road to Punta Allen. Just inside the entrance to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere, your ground transport will make connection with our guides to transfer you to the boat. This allows our guests to relax and take in the scenery on a gentle cruise throughout the mangroves on their way to the lodge. Boat transfer to the lodge is subject to water/tide levels and weather conditions. This option is subject to an additional cost/person.

For our US Customers wanting to arrive/depart the same day of flights, we ask that you try to schedule flights arriving no later than 3pm and departing no earlier than 2pm. This will ensure comfortable and smooth travel to and from the lodge.

Customs
For our US Customers:
Upon arrival in Cancun, you will have to present your passport at immigration. There are now new digital stalls for a faster convenience (no stamps required). If you do not wish to use the digital stalls, there are immigrations officer booths available. From there, you will claim any baggage you may have and walk through customs. Customs selection is at random. Once through customs, turn right, and the exit will be directly ahead.
For our European Customers:
Upon arrival in Cancun, you will claim your baggage and clear Mexican Customs & Immigration. At the first stop, you will have to present your documentation and have your Tourist Card stamped. You must then fill out a Mexican Customs Declaration Form (available at counters in the terminal) and present it before departing the terminal.
Our Transport Representative
After clearing Customs and Immigration, you will exit the customs area where a transfer representative will meet you. He will be holding up a sign with your name/group on it. He will assist with luggage and escort you to your transport.
Documents Required
All U.S. and European citizens are required to have a passport which is valid for at least 6 months after the return date of their trip. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages and that it is not torn, delaminated, or damaged in any way. No visa or vaccinations are required for U.S. or European citizens.
Emergency Medical Transportation
Clients who purchase trip cancellation insurance automatically qualify for Medical Evacuation / Repatriation coverage as well.
Travel Baggage Insurance
Baggage insurance is suggested to cover valuable rods and reels. Travel insurance covers your rods and reels while en route (airlines typically insure for loss but not for damage).
Note : Punta Allen Fishing Club does not assume financial responsibility for lost fishing time or additional costs such as extra transfer costs incurred because of missed airline connections, canceled or delayed flights.
For our European customers we recommend holiday interruption insurance for possible coverage of such events.

Electrical
The electrical current and plugs are the same as in the U.S., so our European customers will need a converter or adapter.
Currency Exchange
The US dollar is well accepted in Mexico, as is the Euro. There is no need to exchange money. All gratuities and payments to the lodge can be made in either currency.

Money/Credit Card
Please note: There are no banks or ATMs in Punta Allen. Please plan to have enough cash to cover your expenses as part of your stay. We can, however, accept credit cards at the lodge (Visa/Mastercard/American Express). American Express customers are subject to a 3.5% surcharge.

The Village
Punta Allen is a small village which houses 250 families. There are 3 grocery stores, some local restaurants (we recommend Muelle Viejo), first aid center, mechanics, Police office, navy outpost, and a place where you can buy gasoline. However, there is no ATM or Bank, Postal Office, or cellular signal. So for international phone connection, a visitor must use web services like Skype or WhatsApp. In season, a boat or van connection service to Tulum takes place twice a day, and is usually an early morning departure from Punta Allen with afternoon return from Tulum.
Time Zone

Non-Angling Activities
We can supply bicycles, kayaks, snorkeling equipment and arrange various ecological-tours and excursions: Chichen Itza, Tulum Ruins, Coba Ruins, Grand Cenote, and shopping in Playa del Carmen, etc. If this is something you would like to do, please advise the lodge in advance.
